Job Title: Sanitation Technician – Pork Processing

Job Summary:

The Sanitation Technician is responsible for ensuring the cleanliness and sanitation of all production equipment, machinery, and facility areas within our pork processing plant. This critical role is essential for maintaining a safe and hygienic food processing environment, adhering strictly to USDA, HACCP, GMP, and company-specific sanitation standards. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, able to work in a demanding environment, and committed to upholding the highest levels of food safety.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Disassemble, clean, sanitize, and reassemble production equipment and machinery (e.g., saws, grinders, conveyors, packing lines, hoppers) according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

  • Perform wet and dry cleaning procedures, including scrubbing, foaming, rinsing, and sanitizing of all surfaces, floors, walls, and ceilings in production areas.

  • Operate and maintain sanitation equipment such as high-pressure hoses, foamers, scrubbers, and other cleaning tools safely and effectively.

  • Handle and mix various cleaning chemicals and sanitizers according to safety guidelines and proper dilution ratios, ensuring accurate use and storage.

  • Follow Lockout/Tagout procedures and other safety protocols when cleaning and working around machinery.

  • Inspect cleaned areas and equipment to ensure thoroughness and compliance with sanitation standards, identifying and addressing any areas requiring additional attention.

  • Document sanitation activities, including checklists, logs, and any deviations from procedures, as required.

  • Report any equipment malfunctions, safety hazards, or sanitation concerns to the supervisor immediately.

  • Assist with the proper disposal of waste and by-products.

  • Adhere to all company policies, including safety, quality, and attendance guidelines.

  • Participate in ongoing training sessions related to sanitation, food safety, and workplace safety.

  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Sanitation Supervisor or management.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

  • Experience:

    • Previous experience in sanitation, preferably in a food processing or manufacturing environment (meat processing highly preferred).

    • Familiarity with USDA, HACCP, GMP, and other food safety regulations is a significant plus.

  • Skills:

    • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions, including SDS (Safety Data Sheets) for chemicals.

    • Strong attention to detail and a thorough approach to cleaning.

    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

    • Basic mechanical aptitude for disassembling and reassembling equipment.

    • Good communication skills.

  • Physical Requirements:

    • Ability to frequently lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs.

    • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and kneel for extended periods.

    • Ability to work in varying temperatures, including cold and wet environments (refrigerated areas, washdown).

    • Comfortable working with cleaning chemicals and wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including waterproof clothing, gloves, boots, and eye protection.

    • Manual dexterity to operate equipment and handle tools.

  • Work Environment:

    • Primarily in a production plant setting, which may be wet, cold, noisy, and involve exposure to raw meat products and cleaning chemicals.

    • Requires working flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
